This free Preeti to Unicode converter turns old Preeti, Kantipur, Sagarmatha, PCS Nepali, Ganess, Aakriti and Himalli text into standard Unicode Nepali (देवनागरी) that works in Google, Facebook, Gmail, Word and every phone — and converts Unicode back to Preeti when a form or press still needs the old font. It handles the tricky parts of Preeti typing: the short i (ि) typed before its letter, the reph (र्) typed after its syllable, half letters, ra-kar (्र), conjuncts like क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ, द्ध and श्र, the eyelash र्‍ (as in गर्‍यो), ङ, ञ, ण, ऋ, ॐ, । and ॥, and Nepali numbers. Text that is already Unicode Nepali is left exactly as it is, so a document that mixes Preeti and Unicode can be converted safely. Paste text or upload a Word .docx or .txt file — in Word files only the text set in a Preeti-type font is converted, so English, tables, bold text and headers stay as they are. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Preeti to Unicode in one step — for documents, Facebook and Gmail

Government offices, schools and newspapers in Nepal typed for decades in Preeti and Kantipur. Those files only look right where the font is installed. Converting them to Nepali Unicode makes the same text searchable on Google, readable on any phone, and safe to paste into Facebook, WhatsApp, Gmail, Google Docs or a website.

Accurate Preeti font mapping, not just a letter swap

A simple letter swap breaks Nepali: in Preeti the ि sign is typed before the consonant and the reph is typed after the syllable, while Unicode stores them in spoken order. This converter reorders them, joins half letters (for example 0f = ण and If = क्ष), builds ऊ, झ, फ, क्र and क्त from their two-key forms, and converts Nepali digits and the purnabiram (।). It is checked by more than a thousand automated tests: government vocabulary, sentences, special characters and round trips in both directions.

Unicode to Preeti for printing and old software

Some printing presses, design files and forms still need Preeti. Switch the direction to convert Unicode Nepali back to Preeti keystrokes — English digits become Nepali digits automatically, and the tool warns you about English letters that the Preeti font cannot show.

  1. Choose Preeti → Unicode or Unicode → Preeti (and the old font, if not Preeti)
  2. Paste your text, or upload a Word .docx or .txt file
  3. Check the live result on the right
  4. Copy it, or download TXT, Word, or the converted Word file with its formatting

  • For a Word file typed in Preeti, keep “Only Preeti-font text” selected so English in Arial or Times New Roman is not changed.
  • After converting to Unicode, set the font to Kalimati, Mangal or Noto Sans Devanagari — the result is plain Unicode, so any Nepali font shows it.
  • For Unicode → Preeti, paste the result into Word and choose the Preeti font; English letters will not survive in Preeti, so keep English in another font.
  • Legacy fonts were never standardised: custom or edited Preeti versions, unusual conjuncts and text pasted from PDFs can need a manual fix, so proof-read important documents. Kantipur, Sagarmatha, PCS Nepali, Ganess, Aakriti and Himalli share most of Preeti's keyboard; their rarely used symbol keys were checked against the font files we could find and may differ in other versions. Fontasy Himali uses a different keyboard and is not supported. Preeti has no keys for a few Unicode characters (for example the nukta dot and ॠ), so Unicode → Preeti approximates them. Old .doc files must be saved as .docx first.

What is the difference between Preeti and Unicode?

Preeti is an old “font-hack”: the file stores English keys (for example g]kfn) and the Preeti font draws them as Nepali (नेपाल). Without the font the text looks like gibberish, and Google, phones and social media cannot read it. Unicode stores the real Nepali letters, so it works everywhere and in every Nepali font.

How do I convert Preeti to Unicode?

Paste the Preeti text in the left box (or upload the .docx/.txt) and the Unicode Nepali appears on the right instantly. Copy it or download it as TXT or Word.

Can I convert a whole Word file typed in Preeti?

Yes. Upload the .docx and download the converted Word file. Only the text that uses a Preeti, Kantipur, Sagarmatha, PCS Nepali, Ganess, Aakriti or Himalli font is converted, and text that is already Unicode is never changed; paragraphs, tables, headers, footers, bold and sizes are kept, and the font is switched to Kalimati (or Mangal / Noto Sans Devanagari).

Can it convert Unicode to Preeti?

Yes — choose Unicode → Preeti. This is useful for printing presses, old software and forms that still ask for Preeti. Paste the output into Word and select the Preeti font.

Does it support Kantipur, Sagarmatha and PCS Nepali?

Yes, and Ganess, Aakriti and Himalli too. They use almost the same keys as Preeti, but each draws a few symbol keys differently (Sagarmatha, for example, has about 30 such keys), and PCS Nepali swaps the number row. Pick the right font in the menu so those keys come out correctly.

What happens if my text is already Unicode, or mixes Unicode and Preeti?

Unicode Nepali is kept exactly as it is — it is never re-converted, so words like जिल्ला or a colon in “विषय :” cannot be scrambled. Only the Preeti keystrokes around it are converted, and English words and web addresses are kept. If the whole text is already Unicode, the tool tells you and offers to convert it to Preeti instead.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The converter is pure JavaScript running in your browser, so letters, applications and documents never leave your device and it works without an account.

Why are some words still wrong after converting?

Usually the source was typed with a different legacy font, the Preeti text was copied from a PDF (which can scramble the order of glyphs), or a rare conjunct was typed in an unusual way. Fix the word by hand or tell us the example through the contact page.
