Notes — type & handwrite in your browser
A notes app inspired by the best phone note apps: a clean notes list, a warm paper editor, typing and handwriting together, and pressure-sensitive ink that works with Apple Pencil, S Pen & other styluses. No account, no upload — notes auto-save in this browser.
Typing and handwriting in one note
Each note combines a title, typed text and a tall drawing page — sketch a diagram under your meeting notes, annotate with the highlighter, or keep a handwritten journal next to a typed checklist. Drawing tools include a pressure-sensitive pen, translucent highlighter, eraser, preset and custom colours, four ink sizes, undo/redo, clear page, blank/lined/grid/dot paper, and image insertion onto the canvas.
Stylus, palm rejection and touch
The canvas is built on Pointer Events, the web standard supported by Apple Pencil in Safari and by Samsung S Pen, Wacom and generic styluses in Chrome-based browsers. When a stylus reports pressure, line width follows it; smooth strokes are drawn through quadratic curves and coalesced pointer events keep fast writing fluid. While a pen is actively drawing, other touches are ignored (basic palm rejection). Turn Draw with finger off to make finger touches scroll instead of draw — the closest a web page can get to pen-only mode.
Private, offline-friendly — with one honest warning
Notes are stored in IndexedDB (docsample-notes) on this device only, auto-saved a moment after every change, and survive until you clear browser/site data. Browsers can evict website storage under storage pressure — iOS Safari is known for this on nearly-full devices — so use Backup all to keep a JSON copy, and download important notes as PDF or PNG. The backup restores everything, including editable handwriting strokes.
Frequently asked questions
Does this work with Apple Pencil and Samsung S Pen?
Yes. The drawing canvas uses the standard Pointer Events API with pressure and (where the device reports it) tilt, which is how Apple Pencil works in Safari and S Pen / Wacom styluses work in Chrome and Samsung Internet. Pen strokes change width with pressure. There is also a 'Draw with finger' switch: turn it off and only a pen or mouse draws, so your finger scrolls and palm touches are ignored while the pen is down. We cannot test every physical pencil on every device from here — if your stylus works with other drawing websites, it should work here.
Where are my notes saved?
Only in this browser on this device, in IndexedDB storage under the name docsample-notes. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account or sync. Notes survive reloads and browser restarts, but they are removed if you clear browser/site data, use private/incognito mode and close it, or the browser frees storage under pressure (mobile Safari can evict website data on devices low on storage).
How do I avoid losing notes when cache is cleared?
Use 'Backup all' in the notes list regularly — it downloads a JSON backup of every note including handwriting strokes. After clearing data, return here and use Import to restore it. For a single important note, also download it as PDF or PNG.
Can a note have both typing and handwriting?
Yes. Every note has a title, a typed text area (with a checklist button) and a drawing canvas with pen, highlighter and eraser, colour and size choices, lined/grid/dot/blank paper, undo and redo. You can also insert an image onto the canvas. One tall canvas page per note in this version, with its strokes stored as editable vector points so resizing never loses your drawing.
What can I export?
Each note can be downloaded as a PNG picture of the drawing page or as a PDF containing the title, typed text and drawing. All notes together can be exported as a JSON backup and imported again on this or another device/browser.
Is it really private?
Yes. Notes are created, drawn and stored entirely in your browser tab and IndexedDB on your device. DocSample servers never receive your note text or drawings.
