Gold rates are quoted per gram for 24K. Lower karats contain less gold: 22K is 22/24 (91.7%), 21K is 21/24 (87.5%) and 18K is 18/24 (75%). Shops publish their own karat rates, which can differ slightly from the pure ratio — you can type each karat's rate directly.
Jewellery price = weight × karat rate + making charges + VAT. In the UAE, VAT of 5% applies to the full value of jewellery for consumers, while investment gold of 99% purity or more is zero-rated. Tourists may claim a VAT refund on departure.

How do I calculate the price of 22K gold?
Multiply the 24K rate by 22 ÷ 24 (0.9167), then by the weight in grams. Add making charges and VAT.
Is VAT charged on gold in the UAE?
Yes, 5% on jewellery (gold value plus making). Investment-grade bars and coins of 99%+ purity are zero-rated.
