Selling in shops? Retail EAN/UPC numbers must be licensed from GS1 in your country — this tool draws the barcode for a number you own; it cannot issue one. For internal stock, asset tags and shipping, use Code 128.

Everything is generated in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.

Processed locally in your browser. Closing this tab clears everything.

This free barcode generator creates print-ready barcodes in your browser: Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8, UPC-E, Code 39, ITF-14, MSI Plessey, Codabar and Pharmacode. The EAN 13 barcode generator and UPC barcode generator calculate the check digit for you and tell you exactly which digit is wrong when you paste a full number. Set the bar height, colours and human-readable text, then download a sharp PNG (transparent background optional), a vector SVG or PDF for packaging artwork, or JPG. Batch mode turns a CSV or Excel list of SKUs into a ZIP of barcode images or a printable A4/Letter sheet, and the Label Maker prints them on Avery®-compatible label sheets.

EAN-13, UPC and Code 128 barcode generator with automatic check digits

EAN-13 and UPC-A numbers end in a GS1 modulo-10 check digit. Type 12 digits for EAN-13 (or 11 for UPC-A) and the generator adds it; paste a full number and it is verified, so a typo never reaches your packaging. EAN-8, UPC-E and ITF-14 work the same way, and Code 39 is converted to capitals automatically.

Where each barcode is used

Code 128: shipping labels, warehouse bins, inventory and asset tags. EAN-13: retail products in Europe, Asia, Australia and most of the world. UPC-A: retail products in the US and Canada. ITF-14: outer cartons. Code 39: older industrial and ID systems. Codabar: libraries and blood banks. Pharmacode: pharmaceutical packaging control.

Free barcode generator — no sign-up, never expires

A barcode is simply an image of your number, so it can never expire. Generate as many as you need, free, with no account and no watermark, for personal or commercial use. Everything runs in your browser. For QR codes use the free QR code generator, and to print barcodes on sticker sheets use the free label maker.

  1. Choose the barcode type — Code 128 for general use, EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products
  2. Type the value; for EAN/UPC type the digits without the check digit and it is added automatically
  3. Adjust bar height, colours and whether the digits are shown under the bars
  4. Download PNG, SVG, PDF or JPG — use SVG/PDF for print and packaging
  5. For many barcodes, open Batch, paste or import your SKU list and download a ZIP or a printable sheet

  • Print barcodes in black on white at 100% size and keep a clear quiet zone on both sides.
  • EAN-13 is nominally 37.29 mm wide; it may be printed between 80% and 200% of that size.
  • Use Code 128 for internal stock, asset tags and shipping — it needs no GS1 licence.
  • Choose PNG ‘px per module’ as a whole number so every bar is the same crisp width.
  • This tool draws barcodes for numbers you provide — it cannot issue official GS1 product numbers (GTINs) for retail. Batch mode makes up to 1,000 barcodes at a time.

How do I make an EAN-13 or UPC barcode?

Choose EAN-13 (12 digits) or UPC-A (11 digits) and type your number — the check digit is calculated automatically. If you type the full 13 or 12 digits, the check digit is verified and you are told the correct one if it is wrong.

Can I use this barcode on products I sell in shops?

Retailers require a GS1-licensed number (a GTIN) for EAN and UPC barcodes. Buy or license your number from GS1 in your country, then generate the barcode image here for free. For internal stock, shelving, assets or shipping, Code 128 works without a licence.

Which barcode type should I choose?

Code 128 for anything internal (any letters and numbers, compact). EAN-13 for retail outside North America, UPC-A for the US and Canada, EAN-8/UPC-E for very small packs, ITF-14 for cartons, Code 39 for older industrial systems and ID badges, Codabar for libraries, and Pharmacode for pharmaceutical packaging.

What file formats can I download?

PNG (with transparent background option and whole-pixel bars for sharp printing), SVG and PDF vectors for print and packaging artwork, and JPG. Batch mode creates a ZIP of PNG or SVG files and a printable A4/Letter PDF sheet.

Will my barcode scan?

Barcodes are encoded with the open-source JsBarcode library and check digits are validated. Print dark bars on a light background at 100% size with a clear quiet zone on both sides; EAN-13 is nominally 37.29 mm wide (80–200% is allowed).

Is the barcode generator free with no sign-up?

Yes — free, no account, no watermark, and the files are yours for commercial use. Barcodes never expire because they are just an image of your number.
